It has been fitted with a Variable Frequency Drive which provides the variable speed required for cutting both wood and metal. As with all Yates American machines, it is much more massive than other machines of similar capacity. Its aesthetically pleasing shape was intended as much to add weight and rigidity as it was to be beautiful. And, as solid as it is, moving it across the floor on its built-in caster wheels is as easy as trundling a little red wagon across the lawn.
Built about 1930, this 16” band saw is one of only a handful of these overbuilt saws left today.
As with all Yates American machines, it is much more massive than other machines of similar capacity.
