Oliver 91-D Mortiser

Ordered and delivered in 1940 this machine was pressed into service aboard the USS Vulcan, a Navy repair ship. The machine features up to a 4” chisel stroke.
The table is 9”x36” and can be tilted to 45 degrees on either side of horizontal for complex joinery. Table movement is accomplished by a rack and pinion for smooth and precise adjustments. With a round drill bit running inside a square chisel, this machine cuts rectangular holes in wood with ease and precision. It’s an essential tool for most forms of high-grade traditional joinery.
